Workshops

The Initiative Office plays a key role in bringing together researchers associated with Designing for the 21st Century Projects for workshops to explore best practice, disseminate findings and identify new opportunities.

Phase 1 Research Cluster Workshops
On Feb 2nd 2005 a one-day ‘introductory’ workshop was held for 60 delegates at the Design Council offices, London. Presentations were made by Professor Tom Inns, (Initiative Director), Professor Steven Scrivener (representative of Designing for the 21st Century Phase 1 research cluster commissioning panel) and by the Principal Investigators of 5 of the research clusters. Delegates then participated in workshop activities that focused on re-examining the objectives of individual research clusters and the generic objectives of the Initiative as a whole.

On Nov 8th, 9th & 10th 2006 a two and a half day ‘reflection & projection’ workshop was held for 70 delegates at the Lighthouse, Glasgow. Presentations were made by Professor Tom Inns (Initiative Director), Dr Stuart MacDonald (representative of Designing for the 21st Century Advisory Group) and by investigators from all 21 of the research clusters. The aims of this workshop were to:
~To provide a forum to share experiences and new knowledge
~To explore drivers of cluster success
~To identify and verify future research directions
~To take stock of potential future research projects and funding criteria

Phase 2 Research Project Workshops
On 19 March 2007 a one-day 'introductory' workshop was held for 50 delegates at the Design Council offices, London. Presentations were made by Professor Tom Inns, (Initiative Director) and by the Principal Investigators of 5 of the research projects. Delegates then participated in workshop activities that explored the milestones, methods and outputs of individual Phase 2 research projects and the exploration of future workshops and dissemination activities.

On 21 February 2008 a a one-day 'update' workshop was held for 50 delegates at the Design Council offices, London.
