~ The importance of taking a future perspective, focusing efforts on developing knowledge and understanding needed over the medium to long-term
~The importance of building links between research and design practice
~The importance of identifying clear criteria for evaluating the Initiative’s research activity
~The need for the long term impact of the research clusters to be tracked.
~The importance of harvesting the principles of best practice in running design research projects.
